Flying Start is the Welsh Government flagship Early Years programme for families with children under 4 years of age, with an aim to improve outcomes for those in identified areas throughout Powys. The Flying Start programme begins in the antenatal period with designated visits until the child starts school.
Flying Start has four key elements:
It is well recognised that children's early years are an important period and experiences at this time impact greatly on children's future development. Flying Start aims to ensure children are given the best possible start in life and provides a range of services to support both parents and children. Therefore, Health Visitors working within the designated areas are able to provide a more intensive health visiting service and greater levels of support in bringing up your children. Health Visitors will achieve this by working in partnership with families to identify need and by empowering parents to make good decisions that affect their family’s future health.
What does this service provide?
The Flying Start Health Visitors will offer a core programme of health visiting to all children and families living in the designated areas within Powys. This involves seeing your Flying Start Health Visitor at key stages throughout your child’s early years when the Flying Start Health Visitor will check that all is well with both your child and you and be able to offer any advice and support that will enhance your child’s health and developmental potential.
