Weight Loss Medications

The Powys Living Well Service is able to prescribe weight loss medications such as Mounjaro and Saxenda. Access to these medications is currently limited to individuals who meet the highest priority criteria as defined in the NICE guidance on Obesity Management. These criteria include:

  • People with life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, where weight loss may improve survival chances
  • People awaiting transplant surgery
  • People receiving fertility treatment from an NHS service who have been advised that weight loss will improve their chance of success
  • People diagnosed with severe sleep apnoea by an NHS respiratory service
  • People with idiopathic intracranial hypertension who require regular lumbar punctures

To be eligible for weight loss medications through Powys Living Well Service, people must:

  • Commit to a structured lifestyle change programme, including:
    • Reduced-calorie diet
    • Increased physical activity, including strength training
  • Engage consistently with the service
  • Attend Bronllys Hospital for prescription collection and clinical reviews

Failure to do this will result in the medications being stopped.
