Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)

Routine Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) vaccination is available in Powys to the following groups:

  • Older adults, as they turn 75 years old
  • Pregnant women, 28 weeks gestation (with the aim of protecting their newborn babies)

 

Pregnant Women (28 weeks gestation)

Pregnant women in Powys will be offered RSV vaccination at 28 weeks gestation (with the aim of protecting their newborn babies).

You will be offered this vaccination via your Powys Midwife.

 

Older Adults (age 75-79)

The RSV programme for older adults consists of the routine programme (those turning 75 years of age from 1st September 2024) and the catch-up programme (those adults who were already aged 75-79 on 1st September 2024).

  • Routine Programme: From 1st September 2024, all adults are offered a vaccine within 12 weeks of their 75th birthday.
  • Catch Up Programme: The catch-up programme which includes all adults who were aged 75-79 years on 1st September 2024. The RSV catch up programme in Powys will begin in early 2025. If you were aged 75-79 on 1 September 2024 you should receive an invitation for RSV vaccination between January and August 2025.

If you are eligible for a vaccination, you will be contacted either by the Powys Teaching Health Board’s Vaccination Service or by participating GP Practices to offer you an appointment.
