What is lung screening?

Lung screening is a health check for your lungs. It looks for lung cancer before you feel unwell.

Public Health Wales plan to bring this screening to people living in Wales.

Eligible people will be invited to have a phone call with some questions about their health. Following the phone call, they will be offered a scan of their chest if needed.

Who will be invited?

  • People aged 55-74, who smoke now or used to smoke.
  • People who have never smoked will not be invited.
  • You do not have to take part in the screening if you don’t want to.

When will it start?

Lung screening is planned to start in Wales in 2028.

At first, only some people will be invited. Over the next six years, more people will be invited until everyone who is eligible is included.
