We all know that being outside and taking exercise is good for our physical and mental well-being. There is growing evidence that this is the case.
By improving the quality of our natural environment and increasing people’s access to green and blue spaces, we can improve our health and look after the planet.
The term green space refers to places such as parks, gardens, woodlands and meadows – including natural, semi-natural and constructed landscapes. Natural environments near to water such as rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, canals and the coastline are often referred to as blue spaces.
Caring for our natural ecosystems are vital as we face a climate emergency, and the resulting impact on human health.
Improving the green spaces around our community and hospital sites will bring benefits to staff, patients, visitors and the local community by utilising what is often termed “green prescribing” as adopted by Welsh Government’s Social Prescribing Framework.
A PTHB steering group to develop procedure, governance and an approval process for introducing and developing community groups onto PTHB premises. Opportunity for partners to be involved such as Powys County Council and PAVO.
The group meets on a bi-monthly basis covering all aspects of working with community groups across the PTHB estate.
If you are interested in booking a community room, you can do so online here. You will need to register your interest first so your group can be approved before you can start booking. Currently only available at Bro Ddyfi hospital, Machynlleth.
If you are interested in getting involved, then please apply using our online form. You would need to be a community group and have appropriate health and safety documents. Depending on the work and the size of the community group a formal licence may need to be entered into. The community group could be involved in eco-therapy, or you may just want to help maintain flower beds. Either way, PTHB would love to hear from you!
