Mental health charities and associated groups

Regional ‘Mind’ charities: Mind Ystradgynlais, Brecon Mind and Mid and North Powys Mind. These independent regional charities are affiliated to Mind, the national mental health charity. They provide support services, in person and online, to those needing mental health support, including those who have been affected by mental illness or distress.

Brecon Green Minds Ecotherapy Project – a community ecotherapy service based at Brecon & District Mind in Powys, Wales. Using horticultural activities, restorative nature-connection sessions and craft making, the project supports local people wishing to improve their mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. Fathom Trust – A charity who aim to promote physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing using traditional crafts to restore connections to body, nature, and society. The Fathom Trust’s website is available at the following link:

Ponthafren – A Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), who aim "to provide a caring community, offering support to those in need and to promote positive mental health and wellbeing for all”. Ponthafren provide two wellness, learning and recovery centres in North Powys, alongside remote and community services. These aim to help bring communities together and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.

Within their centres, Ponthafren focus on health and wellbeing, providing a wraparound service that includes:

  • Counselling
  • One-to-one recovery
  • Life skill courses
  • Volunteering opportunities
  • Exercise courses
  • Creative classes and courses
