Allied Health Professionals

Before you start your cancer treatment, you may need to be referred to an Allied Health Professional (AHP).

AHPs can provide support to improve a patients’ quality of life, physical fitness, wellbeing, mental health, communication, mobility, function and nutritional status

AHPs Include dietitians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech & language therapists:

  • Dietitians assess and treat a wide range of nutritional issues or concerns that can develop as a because of a diagnosis of cancer or its treatment. You can find out more on the Dietetics Services page
  • Occupational therapists help people overcome challenges completing everyday tasks or activities or what occupational therapists call ‘occupations’. These are the everyday things you need, want or have to do.   You can find out more on the Occupational Therapy Services page
  • Physiotherapists assess and treat a wide range of physical problems that may develop as a result of cancer or its treatment. You can find out more on the Physiotherapy Services page
  • Speech & Language Therapists assess and treat a wide range of communication, voice and swallowing disorders.
