From 18 November 2024, there will be some changes to the opening hours of Powys Teaching Health Board’s Minor Injury Units at Breconshire War Memorial Hospital and Llandrindod Wells Memorial Hospital.
A period of public engagement recently took place to seek feedback on proposed temporary changes to services in Powys as part of an ongoing conversation with residents to ensure that NHS services are safe and sustainable for the future. Adults and children over two years old with a wide range of injuries can be treated at our Minor Injury Units. You can visit one of our units for:
Outside of the opening hours of our Minor Injury Units the NHS 111 Wales service can be contacted 24 hours a day for health information and advice, including minor injuries.
If you are experiencing life-threatening symptoms, you should call 999 immediately or visit your nearest A&E department.
Walk in will always be accepted at Powys MIUs, though it can be helpful to call first in order that we can provide you with immediate advice over the telephone, book you in to an appointment or even advise you of an alternative service. Please use the telephone numbers above to contact one of our units.
Kate Wright, Executive Medical Director of Powys Teaching Health Board said:
"These temporary changes will allow our Minor Injury Units to provide a more reliable service.
“During the engagement period we heard a lot of misunderstanding of the role of Minor Injuries Units. We cannot stress strongly enough that these units are for the treatment of minor injuries only. They are not for life or limb-threatening injuries or for major illnesses.
“In an emergency people should call 999 or go to A&E. Visiting an MIU with an urgent medical condition can delay access to life-saving care.”
Please continue to check our website for any updates relating to Minor Injury Unit opening hours.
