Public health experts from Powys Teaching Health Board are strongly encouraging those who are eligible to take up their flu and COVID vaccines in order to give themselves an extra layer of protection from serious illness this winter.

Flu (also known as influenza) can be serious, particularly for those who are older or have a health condition and are more vulnerable to complications as a result of the flu. Having a vaccine every year is one of the most effective ways to protect against flu.

With Covid-19 also in circulation, and added winter pressures on the NHS, it is more important than ever that those who are eligible for a free flu or COVID vaccine get vaccinated to help prevent them becoming seriously unwell and protect the NHS this winter.

Mererid Bowley, Director of Public Health for Powys Teaching Health Board said “Taking up the invitation for COVID-19 and flu vaccination is one of the biggest steps we can take to protect our health this winter. Vaccination saves lives and helps to prevent serious illness. Look out for your invitation, and please do your best to take up the appointment you are offered.”
