Further essential improvement works are due to begin at Llandrindod Wells Memorial Hospital thanks to £3m funding from Welsh Government.
Powys Teaching Health Board has announced that the money will be used to replace windows in the front block, carry out resurfacing work to access roads and footpaths as well as carry out repairs to the roof.
An earlier stage of improvements saw clinical spaces within the hospital upgraded to help the health board provide a wider range of services.
Louise Morris is the health board’s Head of Capital and she explained: “We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that these works may cause to patients and visitors. However, thanks to this funding from Welsh Government, we will be able to address essential building fabric issues as well as improve access to the site through the planned works to the roads and footpaths.”
She added: “We are working closely with stakeholders to minimise disruption as much as possible for patients and visitors and ensure that clinical services remain unaffected.”
The first phase of the work will start this month (October) and will see all windows in the front block of the hospital replaced to address issues of draughts and leaks and improve the thermal comfort of the building. This work is expected to be completed by the end of November.
Alongside this, work will begin on replacement and repair of the hospital’s roof, which is expected to be completed in January.
December will see the start of resurfacing and works to footpaths to improve access and safety for visitors to the site. During these works there may be some temporary traffic management in place and restrictions to car parking. This work is expected to be completed in March.
