It’s easy to let wellbeing slide amid workplace pressures, but self-care is essential if we’re to thrive in both our personal and professional lives.

As World Mental Health Day shines a spotlight on maintaining a healthy work-life balance, here are five practical tips to help you get yours right.

1. Set Clear Boundaries

Separating your work and down time can help reduce stress and banish burnout.  Establish specific work hours and stick to them, and avoid checking work emails or taking calls after hours.

2. Take Regular Breaks

Pressing on without a break can lead to fatigue and ultimately stifle productivity. Schedule short breaks throughout your day and make time to step away from your desk to stretch or take a walk. Regular breaks can refresh your mind, increase your focus, and help improve overall wellbeing.

3. Practice Mindfulness

Manage stress by building mindfulness techniques into your daily routine. Simple techniques like deep breathing, meditation, or even short mindfulness exercises can help you stay grounded and reduce anxiety. At the same time, they can also help boost your productivity by enhancing your ability to stay present and rise to work-related challenges.

4. Communicate Openly

Don’t hesitate to discuss your mental health needs with your manager or HR department. Open communication fosters a supportive work environment where employees feel comfortable expressing their concerns.

5. Prioritise Self-Care

Outside of work, prioritise activities that nurture your wellbeing. Whether it's exercising, spending time with loved ones, or pursuing hobbies, engaging in self-care activities will help recharge your depleted batteries and maintain a positive mindset.
