Today (10 December 2020) sees the publication of the first report by Donna Ockenden into maternity services at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH).
The report is available from the independent review website at www.ockendenmaternityreview.org.uk
The report clearly makes very difficult reading. Importantly, it sets out a series of Local Actions for Learning, and Immediate and Essential Actions for the Trust and maternity services across England.
The Trust has made a commitment to implementing all of the actions in today’s report. They have given their assurance to women and families who use their services that if they raise any concerns about their care they will be listened to and action taken.
We look forward to further progress being made, to ensure that the experience and safety of these services meets the standards that the people of Powys expect and deserve.
Here in Powys Teaching Health Board we will continue to work closely with Donna Ockenden, with the Trust, with health commissioners in England, the Care Quality Commission, NHS England/Improvement and other partners to ensure that services at the Trust continue to improve.
This will include working with partners on the next steps of this review, with the full report expected in 2021.
I would like to thank all women & families from Powys who have shared their experiences as part of this review.
It is essential that the voices of local people continue to be heard. If you would like to share your experiences of care and treatment at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust you can do this in a number of ways:
Sharing experience directly with the Trust through their Patient Advice and Liaison Service:
Sharing experience with our Patient Experience team in Powys Teaching Health Board:
Sharing experience with the local Community Health Council, who provide a free, independent, client-led advocacy service:
