COVID-19 Vaccination Heroes: Powys Contact Tracing Team

Throughout COVID-19, Powys Teaching Health Board and Powys County Council have been working closely together to support local residents and communities.

Just one example of this has seen members of the Contract Tracing Team working as part of the county’s Vaccination Booking Team.

Call handlers are available Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm to answer queries about vaccination appointments. This includes making bookings, rearranging if people cannot attend, and responding to general enquiries.

As well as helping the county’s successful vaccination programme, it also means that contact tracers are ever-ready to help respond to clusters or outbreaks of coronavirus cases if needed. The role of contact traces is as important as ever, with the Delta variant spreading across Wales and the number of cases beginning to rise again. Testing is available in Powys and by post for people with and without symptoms. More information is available from pthb.nhs.wales/find/ttp

Well over 190,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given to Powys residents and to the county’s health and care workers – and throughout 2021 the county has had one of the highest vaccination rates in the country.

Members of the contact tracing team have played a vital role in this, and thousands of people will have heard their friendly voice at the end of the phone providing helpful advice about vaccination.

Greg Langridge-Thomas is Contact Tracing Operational Manager for Powys County Council: “The Council and the Health Board have been working closely together throughout the pandemic to Keep Powys Safe. This has been a great opportunity for members of the contact tracing team to use their skills to support the Powys vaccination programme.”

Kate Prothero is the Powys Teaching Health Board Business Manager for Vaccination e.g. “The contact tracers have been a great addition to the team, helping us to deal with the thousands of enquiries we receive about vaccination appointments. I would like to extend my personal thanks to everyone who has played a vital role in our vaccination programme here in Powys.”
