On 12 June it was announced that young people born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008 (17/18 yr olds in school year 13) as well as those aged between 18 and 25 entering their first year of university will be offered two doses of Meningitis vaccination this summer and autumn.
- In Wales, you are eligible for the free two-dose MenB vaccine if:
- You are born between 01/09/2007 and 31/08/2008 (17 to 18 years old) (Cohort 1)
- born on or after 21/07/2001 (turning 25 on or after 21/07/2026) and are due to start undergraduate higher education OR residential further education, for the first time in autumn 2026, including international students and those from the UK Devolved Administrations and Crown Dependencies (Cohort 2)
- Two doses of the MenB vaccine are essential for protection and you need to get your second dose at least 28 days after your first dose. Ideally, the two doses to be completed before you go to university.
- Powys Teaching Health Board vaccination service is currently developing plans to invite those in Cohort 1 to clinics across Powys. Invite letters are likely to be sent out at the beginning of July with appointments starting from 20th July. Please do not contact your GP to arrange an appointment, a letter will be sent to you in due course.
- If you are eligible as part of Cohort 2, details on how to receive a vaccination will be made available on the Powys Teaching Health Board Website and Social Media Channels after 20 July 2026.
