Prepare for winter: Sign up for free Flood Warnings

15 October 2026

While we don’t yet know what the weather will bring us this winter, will we all need to be ready to take action wherever it is needed. As well as making sure our rivers are clear from debris and that our flood risk assets are maintained, Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is working with key partners like local authorities to ensure we are prepared to deal with whatever weather comes our way.

With 1 in 7 homes and businesses in Wales at risk of flooding, and with the climate emergency bringing more extreme weather, it is more important than ever that people know and understand their flood risk, and take three simple steps before the rain starts to fall.

Natural Resources Wales’ (NRW) new and improved Flood Warning Information Service provides early warnings to people in areas at risk of flooding from rivers and the sea. These warnings can give you valuable time to take action and reduce the flood risk for your loved ones, home, business and belongings.

Right now, people are able to shape the service they receive by contacting Floodline. However, later this year, you will be able to go online to manage your own account and customise your warning preferences—choosing which messages you receive, selecting whether to receive warnings in Welsh or English.

You will be able to choose your preferred method of communication (email, phone or text), and specify other locations of interest, such as a business or family member’s home, making sure you’re informed about the potential for flooding in the places that matter most to you.

Signing up is simple and free—just visit naturalresources.wales/register or call Floodline on 0345 988 1188 (Typetalk: 0345 602 634).

Knowing your flood risk and preparing in advance is the best way to protect yourself and your property. NRW’s website has a wealth of information to help you – naturalresources.wales/flooding
