Sepsis is a life-threatening response to infection that can affect anyone, at any age. Recognising the signs early and acting quickly can make a vital difference. Sepsis is often treatable if caught early.
This month, we're raising awareness of the importance of spotting sepsis, and seeking urgent medical help when needed.
Our Head of Nursing for Sepsis, Gareth Thomas says:
Early recognition of sepsis is absolutely vital, knowing the signs, trusting your instincts and seeking urgent medical help when needed can save lives. Sepsis can progress quickly, so understanding what to look for and acting without delay is key to improving outcomes. Sepsis is a medical emergency that affects over 245,000 people every year in the UK. But knowing the signs – and acting fast – can save lives".
We are encouraging everyone to learn more about sepsis and understand that early recognition and rapid treatment can save lives. Trust your instincts. If you or a loved one has an infection and just know something’s wrong, Just Ask: “Could it be Sepsis?
