Supporting and Celebrating Our Armed Forces Community

Armed Forces Week is a time to recognise and celebrate the dedication, courage, and commitment of those who serve, or who have previously served, in the Armed Forces, including regular personnel, reservists, veterans, cadet force adult volunteers, and military families.

Members of the Armed Forces make significant personal sacrifices in service to our country, often spending long periods away from home and loved ones, working in challenging environments, and placing the needs of others before their own. Armed Forces Week gives us an opportunity to reflect on and appreciate the contribution they make in protecting and supporting communities both in the UK and around the world.

Powys Teaching Health Board is proud to support the Armed Forces Covenant and to have achieved Silver Defence Employer Recognition Scheme status, demonstrating our commitment to supporting members of the Armed Forces community within our workforce.

This Armed Forces Week, we recognise and thank colleagues, families and communities connected to the Armed Forces.

During Armed Forces Week, PTHB will fly the flag at hospital sites in recognition for our support to the community.

Mererid Bowley, Executive Director of Public Health, said:

“Armed Forces Week provides an important opportunity for us to recognise and thank those who serve, those who have served, reservists who balance military duties alongside their NHS roles, and the families who support them.

We recognise the personal sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces community in service to our country, often away from family and loved ones for extended periods of time. Their commitment, resilience, and dedication deserve our appreciation and respect.

We are proud to support colleagues within our workforce who are veterans, reservists, or members of military families, and to acknowledge the valuable experience and dedication they bring to the NHS every day.

As a Health Board, we remain committed to being an Armed Forces friendly organisation and to ensuring that members of the Armed Forces community feel recognised, valued, and supported across our services.”
