Powys Teaching Health Board has confirmed that proposals for the future of adult physical and mental health community services in Powys will be considered at a Board meeting on 16 September 2026. If agreed, the proposals would then move to a full public consultation, giving residents, patients, staff and stakeholders a wide range of opportunities to have their say before any final decisions are made.
The Better Together programme is looking at how services can continue to meet the needs of Powys communities in the years ahead. The Health Board has previously highlighted a number of challenges, including increasing demand for services, an ageing population, workforce shortages, ageing buildings and ongoing financial pressures. Board members have been clear that these issues mean doing nothing is not a sustainable option.
At its meeting on 29 July, the Board received an update on the work completed so far and approved plans for how a future consultation would be carried out, should consultation be approved in September. Importantly, no decisions have been made about the future shape of services.
If consultation is approved, people across Powys will be able to review the proposals, attend events, ask questions and provide feedback. The Health Board has committed to carefully considering all feedback before any recommendations are brought forward for a final decision, which is expected in Spring 2027.
