National firebreak 23rd October to 9th November 2020

Hospital outpatient appointments, planned procedures and primary care appointments (including flu clinics) will continue as scheduled in Powys during the firebreak taking place from 23 October to 9 November.

If you have a hospital appointment, planned procedure or primary care appointment, please attend as planned as long as you do not have COVID symptoms.

If you have any queries or concerns about attending your appointment, please contact the relevant service using the number on your appointment letter.

Women will continue to be able to bring their partner or nominated other to support them when they are undergoing their scheduled anomaly scan (20 weeks scan) and during active labour.

In an emergency, if you have urgent care needs that won't wait but are NOT 999 emergencies, please use the online symptom checker or dial 111 for NHS 111 Wales for health advice and support. The number is free to call 24/7.

Carol Shillabeer, Chief Executive of Powys Teaching Health Board said:

“We know COVID-19 is affecting people, services and businesses in very many ways and the way it continues to challenge our understanding of everyday life feels really hard for every one of us right now.

“If we can all follow the restrictions which start at 6pm on Friday – stay at home whenever possible and do not mix with people outside of our household - we can protect more people from the virus.

“As cases have increased in our communities, we are seeing more patients with COVID admitted to hospitals across the country.

“What we all do now helps stop the spread and this directly helps the NHS so that it can still be here for you when you need it.

“Thank you to everyone for all of your continuing efforts to stop the spread of COVID. Your actions will save lives and protect the NHS.”

The situation means it remains necessary for us to have very restricted visiting to our hospitals, to ensure the safety of visitors and staff.  Information about our visiting arrangements is available from: https://pthb.nhs.wales/coronavirus/visiting-arrangements/

From 23 October:

  • people must stay at home, except for very limited purposes
  • people must not visit other households or meet other people they do not live with
  • certain businesses and venues, including bars, restaurants and most shops must close
  • secondary schools will provide learning online only for the week after half-term, other than for children in years seven and eight. Primary schools and childcare settings will remain open.
  • face coverings continue to be mandatory in the indoor public spaces that remain open (subject to certain exemptions and exceptions), including on public transport and in taxis
